N.A.S.A. Telescope is Launched Into Space

NASA has recently launched a telescope called the James Webb Telescope into space. This telescope is extremely sensitive to light. But can “see” a penny from up to 25 miles away. This telescope can see over 1,000 times better than the human eye.

Right now the James Webb telescope is about 1 million miles away from Earth. And was launched on December 21, 2021. As it’s in space it took several hours to unfold. And a very long time to even activate the telescope. The telescope has not captured a lot of information yet.

The telescope took 30 years to build. But it will only last 5-12 years in space. The goal of the telescope is to search for galaxies or luminous objects formed after the Big Bang. The first objective is to orbit the Sun. We cannot see what the telescope is “looking” at.

The James Webb telescope has a deployable sunshield, and the telescope is 20ft. The telescope is traveling at 720 miles per hour. The telescope has 18 primary mirror segments. Although the telescope hasn’t captured much information yet, it will have much useful information in the future.
